Ernst Bipartisan STEM Bill Passes Senate Unanimously

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Joni Ernst's (R-Iowa) bipartisan National STEM Week Act passed the Senate unanimously.

Ernst's bill promotes science, technology, engineering, and math skills to increase the United States' competitiveness in innovation and technology. By connecting students with real-world industry career pathways, this effort will strengthen the pipeline between schools and employment.

Last year, Ernst hosted a roundtable with partners from the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), Kemin Industries, and Iowa 4-H to discuss the critical role STEM education plays in shaping our workforce.

"STEM skills are key to fostering a growing and innovative economy, and I'm excited that my National STEM Week Act has passed the Senate to increase opportunities and experiences for students across our nation," said Ernst. "Through this effort, I am proud to equip our students for successful careers and fostering the workforce of tomorrow. I look forward to seeing it signed into law."

The National STEM Week Act will:

  • Increase STEM engagement by involving students in hands-on STEM activities to increase interest and proficiency in STEM fields;
  • Enhance collaboration with industry partners to provide real-world experience and mentorship;
  • Encourage family and community involvement to enhance student understanding and retention; and
  • Align, aggregate, and support individual state efforts and enable the nation to celebrate STEM efforts.
