Redwood City, CA - Last night, the City of Redwood City held a second community forum on automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology to invite additional community feedback after the Oct. 7 community forum, held at Fair Oaks Community Center. At the Oct. 7 forum, City staff had described a work plan that anticipated bringing a recommendation to the City Council in the fall. At the Oct. 29 forum, the City Manager announced his decision to postpone the presentation of a recommendation to the City Council on this topic until early 2027.
"We appreciate all the community members who have engaged in this process to date and shared their perspectives," said City Manager Patrick Heisinger. "Taking additional time to listen and carefully evaluate our options will help us make a more informed recommendation that responds to what we've heard and serves our community well."
The City's current agreement with Flock Safety for ALPR technology expires on Nov. 30, 2026.
