RE: Infant Formula Recall Linked to Botulism Outbreak
Amador County, CA - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), in coordination with the CDC and other state health agencies, is investigating a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula. Testing by CDPH found bacteria that cause botulism in one sample of the formula.
Consumers should stop using this product immediately.
On November 8, 2025, ByHeart Inc. recalled two lots of Whole Nutrition Infant Formula:
The recalled product was sold online and in stores nationwide, including Amazon, Kroger, Walmart, Whole Foods, Target, and Sam's Club.
CDPH, CDC, and state partners are investigating 13 suspected or confirmed infant botulism cases in 10 states. Eight cases have been confirmed as toxin type A botulism.
Symptoms include constipation, weak cry, trouble feeding, poor head control, and muscle weakness. Parents noticing these signs should seek medical care right away.
Guidance for dealing with recalled infant formula:
1. Stop using the product immediately.
Do not feed the recalled formula to your baby under any circumstances.
2. Check the formula label carefully.
Look for the brand name, lot number, and "use by" date printed on the bottom or side of the formula container.
3. Compare this information with the official recall notice from the manufacturer
