Celebrate Banned Books Week in Trexler Library

Trexler Library is celebrating Banned Books Week with the Department of Humanities by hosting a Banned Books Reading program in the library lobby on Wed, Sept 25 at noon.

Faculty, staff, and students will read selections from banned and challenged books. Join us to listen, reflect, and learn about the importance of intellectual freedom and open access to diverse ideas. All are welcome.

All around the United States, libraries face book challenges or bans by administrators, parents, and organizations, censoring materials they may not agree with such as LGBTQ+ representation, profanity, racism, etc.

According to the American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom, there were 4,240 unique book titles targeted for censorship, as well as 1,247 demands to censor library books, materials, and resources in 2023, the highest documented number yet. Here at Trexler Library, it is our responsibility to uphold your freedom to read the materials of your choosing.
