The Organization of American States (OAS) will celebrate the First Inter-American Mental Health Week from October 6 to 10, under the slogan: "Empower, Connect, Care: Strengthening Child and Youth Mental Health in the Americas."
This initiative reaffirms the commitment of the hemispheric organization's member states to the promotion, prevention, and comprehensive care of mental health, especially for children, adolescents, and young people, recognizing it as a fundamental human right and an essential pillar for sustainable social and economic development.
The opening ceremony will take place on Monday, October 6, at 10:00 EDT (14:00 GMT) in the Simón Bolívar Hall at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC , and will include the participation of senior officials from the OAS, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and representatives of member states.
The week's program will include Permanent Council meetings, an art exhibition, regional capacity-building workshops, and webinars with international experts.
The First Inter-American Mental Health Week represents a unique opportunity to raise awareness, share experiences, and strengthen regional cooperation around a priority challenge for the Americas.
