The Italian citizen Nessy Guerra, who has been embroiled in a legal case with her ex-husband for months, was taken into custody this morning in Cairo and transferred to a police station, where she was reached by the Ambassador of Italy, Agostino Palese, and the Consul of Italy, Giulia De Nardis, who have been supporting her and her three-year-old daughter for months. Apparently, the reason for the summons is an order from an Egyptian judge to allow the little girl to see her father, Tamer Hamouda.

Minor child custody is at the heart of a long-running dispute with her ex-husband, who has himself been convicted in Italy of various offences and was recently arrested and then released on bail for threatening the Consul of Italy in Hurghada. The Italian Government is currently exerting pressure on the Egyptian authorities at the highest level to ensure the utmost protection for the Italian woman and her young daughter, particularly to prevent any further incidents of violence or threats from her husband.
