City of Novato Supports Small Businesses through Shop Local Novato Campaign

The City of Novato is excited to shine a spotlight on some of the incredible small businesses that make our community vibrant, unique, and full of homegrown charm. City staff recently installed new Shop Local Novato lamppost banners along Grant Avenue, proudly featuring more than 50 Novato businesses - from San Marin to Hamilton and everywhere in between.

The banners are part of the City's Shop Local Novato initiative, which encourages local spending and supports the shops, restaurants and service providers that bring heart, character and connection to every Novato neighborhood. Choosing to shop locally helps fund our parks, roads, and other essential community services, ensuring that sales tax dollars are reinvested right here in Novato.

"Supporting our small business community is a priority for the City, and this initiative is just one way we put that commitment into action while inspiring hometown pride. The previous Shop Local Novato banners had reached the end of their lifespan, and the redesigned banners will highlight both familiar favorites and newly featured businesses," said Katie Skjerping, Economic Development Manager. "We hope this campaign encourages residents to explore businesses they haven't visited before, meet the neighbors behind the storefronts, and see how every local purchase strengthens the community we call home. Shopping locally isn't just convenient - it's meaningful."

This banner project was 100% local from start to finish with the design, photography for newly included businesses and production completed by Novato-based businesses Kiosk, Prismic Photography, and Centric Signs. The new banners will be displayed along Grant Avenue each year from November to May. To reduce waste, a textile recycling company will repurpose the previous vinyl banners.

Shop Local Novato continues to celebrate and uplift Novato's entrepreneurial spirit - locally loved, Novato grown.
