Wyandotte County families: Get ready for the 2025-2026 school year by making sure your child is up to date on routine immunizations! Find vaccine providers with walk-in and appointment hours as well as community events providing immunizations.

Back-to-School Events in Wyandotte County
Each of these events will provide free routine immunizations for children who qualify as well as a variety of free resources and activities. See event details below.
- July 30, 2025: Turner USD 202 Back to School Bash

Turner USD 202 Back to School Bash
Wednesday, July 30th, 4 - 6:30 PM

This event is for Turner USD 202 students only.
Childhood immunizations provided by the Wyandotte County Public Health Department for children ages 18 and younger who qualify for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. VFC eligibility: American Indian or Alaska Native, Medicaid-eligible, uninsured, or underinsured (for individuals whose insurance does not cover childhood immunizations). Please bring your child's vaccination record.
Event also includes:
- Kindergarten - 5th grade school supplies
- Hotdogs and chips
- Games and activities
- Raffle giveaways
- Assistance from Turner staff with MyRideK12, free/reduced meal applications, enrollment, district technology, and more

This event is open to all Wyandotte County K-12 students.
Childhood immunizations provided by the Wyandotte County Public Health Department for children ages 18 and younger who qualify for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. Prepare for Your Child's Immunization Visit

CDC: Before, During, and After Shots
Before Your Visit
- Gather all of your child's previous immunization records. Reach out to your medical provider if you need assistance prior to your appointment. Your appointment may need to be rescheduled if you do not have the most up-to-date records.
- Read about the vaccines your child may be getting and write down any questions you may have. Vaccine Information Sheets for childhood immunizations can be found on the CDC website.
- Be ready to support your child during their vaccine visit. If they are younger, gather their favorite toys, books or blanket to help comfort them. If they are older, be honest with them and manage their expectations.
During Your Visit
- Let the medical provider know if your child has been experiencing any illness, has any medical issues, is taking medication, or has any allergies.
- Try to comfort and distract your child during the visit.
- Fainting (syncope) can be common amongst adolescents and some children immediately after getting shots. To help prevent any injuries, your children should stay seated for 15 minutes after receiving their immunizations.
- Before you leave your appointment, ask your medical provider for advice on the non-aspirin pain relievers and other steps you can take at home to comfort your child.
After Your Visit
Sometimes children experience mild reactions from shots such as pain at the injection site, a rash or fever. These reactions are normal and will soon go away.
These tips will help you identify and minimize side effects:
- Read the Vaccine Information Sheet(s) your child's medical provider gave you to learn about side effects your child may experience.
- Use the non-aspirin fever reducers that your medical provider recommends.
- Offer liquids more often. It is normal for children to eat less during the 24 hours after getting vaccines.
- Pay extra attention to your child for a few days. If something concerns your, call your medical provider.
