Germain hits walk off shot to secure fourth straight series; Texans take sole possession of second in the WAC riding eight game win streak

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - only needed one pitch to complete the doubleheader sweep over the Wolverines Friday night as the Texans won their eighth straight game and took over sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the WAC standings.

Neither the Texans (26-15, 11-6 WAC) nor the Wolverines (12-26, 5-11 WAC) have lost on home turf when playing one another as Tarleton State won their first two games in program history over Utah Valley.

Tarleton State and Grand Canyon sit No. 2 and No. 1 respectively as they are both riding an extended win streaks and are 9-1 in their last 10 games. The Texans are now just two conference games behind the Lopes in first place as now UT Arlington and Seattle U are a game-and-a-half back from the Purple and White of Tarleton State.

Tarleton State 5 Utah Valley 1

The fourth inning made all the difference in Game 1 Friday night as the Texans put up a five spot in the fourth as the Purple and White took the game 5-1.

Germain got things started as she hit a double to left center scoring and to put Tarleton State up 2-0 in the fourth inning. A few batters later, a pinch hitter and bases loaded saw take a bases loaded walk as Germain scored to make it 3-0. then continued her timely hot hitting ways as she singled to right scoring and to make it 5-0.

In the top of the fifth, Utah Valley avoided the shutout as Tatum Hall doubled to left center scoring Rachael Brown to make it 5-1, the final.

For the Texans, (9-8) tossed her fourth complete game, ninth of her Texan career to earn her ninth win of the season. The Houston transfer went seven innings allowing just a single run (earned) on four hits while she struck out seven and walked just three.

For the Wolverines, Cam Davis (L, 2-6) earned the start in the circle and took the loss as she went six innings. She allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits while she walked a pair and sat down three. Lily Riley face just two batters in the fourth inning as she was not able to record an out before Davis took back over in the circle. Riley allowed two runs (both earned) on one hit and also walked one as well.

The Texans were in uncharted territory in Game two as they were trailing 1-0 after five, a spot that they were 0-12 in when trailing late. Tarleton State didn't let that have any effect on their home turf as Germain played hero in the bottom of the seventh when the Purple and White's seven-game win streak looked to be in jeopardy.

After both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, Utah Valley go on the board as Peyton Hall singled scoring Britney Moreno before being thrown out at second to make it 1-0 road team.

The Texans continued to sit in an uncomfortable situation having to look for a comeback win after not trailing in a game since Mar. 28 of this year when the Purple and White dropped Game 1 of the series to Seattle U before winning the final two. Since the loss in Game 1 to the Redhawks, Tarleton State has only seen a "W" on the box score at the end of the day.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Hill singled to right on a 2-2 count bringing the winning run to the plate in Germain. came in to pinch run for Hill to add some speed on the base paths, but Germain said that wasn't needed. The senior third baseman hit a first pitch no-doubter to left field walking-off the Wolverines 2-1 to secure the fourth straight series for the Texans.

For the Texans, (W, 11-3) pitched another fantastic game as she allowed just one run (earned) on seven hits. She sat nine Wolverines down and walked a pair as she has now struck out 123 on the season. Schultz also picked up her team-leading 11th win of the season.

For the Wolverines, Avery Sapp (L, 8-10) went the distance as she took the loss. She allowed both runs (both earned) on four hits as she walked a pair and struck out five.

Tarleton State now has the opportunity to push the win streak to nine games on Saturday and go for their second straight conference sweep after sweeping Utah Tech at their place last weekend.

The final game of the series is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday at the Tarleton State Softball Complex. The game will stream live on WAC International and live stats will also be available. Tickets are still available for Texan Nation looking to come support the Purple and White.
