City of Bowling Green Issues Warning About Recent Spoofing Calls

The City of Bowling Green has received recent reports from citizens about spoofing/robocalls. Many individuals have received phone calls from numbers that appear to be from city lines. However, when these calls are not answered, no voicemail is left. While Bowling Green offices did not make these calls, any callbacks go to city phone numbers. At this time, there is no information about the source or purpose of these robocalls.

While there is no immediate threat to the public, the City encourages all to stay vigilant. Residents and businesses are urged to take precautions to protect themselves from falling victim to scams. If you suspect a potential scam, follow these steps:

• Hang up and call the official number from a trusted source

• Try not to answer calls from numbers you do not recognize

• Ask a trusted family member or friend if they recognize the number

• Report the number to the Bowling Green Police Division by calling 419-352-1131.

City employees are happy to provide identification to residents. If you're ever unsure about a City employee's identity, call 419-354-6204. City staff will never come to your home to demand payment, will never request to meet you somewhere for payment, and will never demand immediate payment or payments made with gift cards, prepaid credit cards or cryptocurrency.

City offices are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to assist residents.
