City of Norman to install additional All-Way Stop Controls as part of Safety Grant partnership

April 5, 2026

The City of Norman will install all-way stop controls at three more intersections in April and May as part of a 2025 Safety Grant - a grant awarded to the Absentee Shawnee Tribe with assistance from the City of Norman. These improvements follow intersection evaluations prompted by citizen safety concerns and represent the final three of four planned conversions under the grant. The first conversion occurred at Robinson Street and 36th Avenue NE.

Upcoming installations will occur on the following dates, at the following locations:

  • April 22, 2026: Franklin Road and 24th Avenue NE
  • April 28, 2026: Post Oak Road and 60th Avenue SE
  • May 6, 2026: Franklin Road and 156th Avenue NE

Each location will receive "STOP" signs with all-way plates on all approaches, along with "Stop Ahead" warning signs. Flags will be temporarily added to increase visibility and alert drivers to the new traffic control changes.
