Mount Kirk officially named in Fiordland

Minister for Land Information Hon Mike Butterick has announced that a mountain in Fiordland National Park has been officially named Mount Kirk, honouring former Prime Minister Rt Hon Norman Kirk.

The naming recognises Mr Kirk's contribution to New Zealand and his support for the preservation of Lakes Manapouri and Te Anau.

The previously unnamed 1,436-metre mountain is located near Lake Manapouri in Fiordland National Park.
