HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Heritage Lakewood is celebrating 50 years of community

Published on July 13, 2026

On Colorado Day, Aug. 1, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the museum's opening at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park. Help us honor the lasting connection between our community and the 20th-century heritage that defines Lakewood today.

You're Invited!

WHAT: A Birthday Party for Heritage Lakewood

WHO: You! Our community

WHEN: Aug. 1, 4-8 p.m.

WHERE: Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, 801 S. Yarrow St., Lakewood

WHY and HOW: Join the celebration of five decades of history

4 p.m. Join the free exhibition opening party

  • Walk through time! Enjoy birthday cake and a curator introduction at the official opening of the new exhibit celebrating the past 50 years.

5 - 8 p.m. Celebrate and explore the history park

  • The "50 Years of Heritage in Lakewood" exhibit is open Aug. 1-Nov. 28. Discover why and how Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park Museum began, what stories it communicates about the community and what the future plans are for the site.
  • Follow our new interpretive signs to learn about each historic structure and then meet the volunteers and teachers inside. All buildings will be open and free all evening.
  • Enjoy an evening filled with live music, class demonstrations and historic hands-on experiences as you press cider the old-fashioned way, ride on a tractor-drawn hayride and complete a scavenger hunt for a prize.

6-8 p.m. Learn a new (old) skill

Learn a new skill by partaking in blacksmithing or calligraphy classes (fee required). Be inspired to craft your own heritage skills as our instructors demonstrate the exciting programs offered at Heritage Lakewood. Our blacksmith, Jeff Race, will light the forge and demonstrate how blacksmithing allows you to bend fire and metal. Learn about our calligraphy program while getting to know instructor Renee Jorgensen, an accomplished calligrapher and illustrator. Sign up at LakewoodCO.gov/Register.

Marking 2026 Milestones

A City Council proclamation on May 11 marked the 50th anniversary of the Heritage Lakewood museum, alongside America's 250th and Colorado's 150th commemorations. Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park is a 20th-century history park, museum and festival grounds where the community is invited to recognize these milestones during events and programs. New interpretive signage at each historic building allows visitors extended access to learn about the site. The Aug. 1 Birthday Party, Oct. 3-4 Cider Days and Dec. 3 Lakewood Lights events are the culminating dates in a series of recognition events hosted in 2026. It's been a yearlong opportunity to reflect on our shared history and enjoy all Heritage Lakewood has to offer.
