It's Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital's (SSEH) turn to host the 2024 SESLHD Service Awards, recognising staff for 10 or more years of collective service to NSW Health.

The shared respect, camaraderie and friendships formed were on full display as the audience cheered their colleagues on with gusto.

Many staff in SESLHD will know Dr Pauline Rumma, Director of Clinical Services at SSEH. Dr Rumma is celebrating an impressive 45 years of service, all of which has been spent working in our District.

Speaking at the Awards, Dr Rumma recalled her time in the District with great fondness, and paid tribute to the many familiar faces in the room that she has worked with in that time.

At the ceremony, we also had the opportunity to hear from Lisa Woodland, Director of the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service and the SESLHD Equity and Prevention Service. Lisa has been with NSW Health for 35 years, the last 28 of which has been spent in SESLHD.

"My first job was as a brand new psychologist working at Gladesville Hospital. Since then, I've worked in many different roles in the healthcare system."

Among Lisa's career highlights is winning a NSW Health Award for a project focusing on newly arrived refugee young people, which got rolled out across the state.

"The thing that's kept me working in NSW Health is that I love the people. I love their passion and dedication, and I really love working with the community to improve their health."

Ward Clerk Christine Arena is marking 15 years of service, and recently won Administrator of the Year.

"What I love most about my role is working with a team of people, supporting people and making a difference."

"The reason I've stayed the length of time I have is I enjoy working in a hospital community, working with a good team of people and interacting with patients, hearing their stories and helping them as well."

Theatre Nurse Brigette Morley, who's marking a decade of service, is also motivated by her colleagues, patients and new opportunities to grow.

"It's been a wonderful 10 years. I can't believe it's come up so quick, to be honest!"

"My advice to younger staff would be to be confident in your knowledge and skills. You know what you're doing!"
