Larson Opposes Republican Funding Bill that Boosts Trump’s Border Patrol

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against a House Republican "Continuing Resolution" that would allow the Trump Administration to transfer additional funding to the agents that are carrying out President Trump's anti-immigrant agenda.

"In the midst of an affordability crisis where people are struggling to make ends meet, where the price of gas is soaring, and it costs more and more to get by, Republicans brought forward a bill to give even more money to Trump's immigration agents," said Larson. "I opposed this Continuing Resolution because it provides more for what has become this president's personal army, when we should be funding programs where they are most needed: helping working families make ends meet. I was proud to have voted against ICE in its inception. Now, Republicans have aided Trump in expanding ICE, so it is larger than the armies of many countries. It is time to abolish ICE!"

The Republican Continuing Resolution would extend federal funding for agencies, including Trump's Department of Homeland Security (DHS), until after the midterm elections, with no guardrails on the administration's continued abuses of power. It fails to address funding shortfalls at public housing agencies, putting housing assistance at risk for tens of thousands of families-while allowing billions in DHS funding to be transferred to the Border Patrol at Secretary Markwayne Mullin's discretion.

This month, after two residents were shot killed by ICE agents, Secretary Mullin refused to take any action to address the agency's abuses of power. Rep. Larson, who voted against the creation of ICE, called for the Secretary's resignation and an independent investigation into ICE activities. He was labeled an "anti-ICE Democrat"and placed on a "watch list"by Trump officials for his forceful advocacy against the administration's attacks on immigrant families, and his call to abolish ICE altogether.
