Des Moines Parks and Recreation Announces Naming of Future Playground and Sprayground at Gray's Lake Park

Des Moines, Iowa- Tuesday, September 24, 2024 -Des Moines Parks and Recreation announcesthat the future playground and spraygroundat Gray's Lake Park will be named the "Rick Neumann Family Playground and Sprayground." The Des Moines City Council voted unanimously to approve the naming in recognition of Rick Neumann's instrumental role in leading the projectfundraisingand championing its vision from the very beginning.

Gray's Lake Park, already considered one of the crown jewels of the Des Moines metro area, will further solidify its standing as a regional destination with the addition of these new amenities. The playground and spraygroundwill serve as the epicenter for year-round inclusive play and offer a safe, fun optionfor water play outside of the lake itself.

"Rick Neumann has been a true champion for this project, guiding it from its earliest stages and spearheading the fundraising efforts that will bring this vision to life," said Jenny Richmond, Des Moines Parksand Recreation Assistant Director. "We are honored to name the playground and spraygroundafter him and his family, recognizing their leadership in creating this lasting gift for the community."

The Gray's Lake Park Improvements Project aims to raise $2.5 million in total fundraising dollars by December 31, 2024. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with completion slated for 2026. These new features will make the park an even more vibrant hub for families and visitors from across the region.
