Oct. 19 Teach-in Focus: Accompanying Young People in the Creation of a Hope-Filled Future

As a Jesuit university, The University of Scranton is committed to the service of faith and the promotion of justice. This fall, a Teach-in for Justice will take place on Monday, Oct. 19, at the Loyola Science Center, room 133, focused on the theme "Journeying with Youth, Accompanying Young People in the Creation of a Hope-Filled Future," Jesuit Universal Apostolic Preference #3.

The event is presented by the Ellacuría Initiative, which sponsors a range of lectures, discussions and demonstrations at the University and in the local community. The initiative's signature event, the annual Teach-In for Justice, is a daylong series of lectures that showcase how faculty and community members are thinking about and working for justice in various ways and invites students to learn more about these efforts.

The initiative draws inspiration from the late Rev. Ignacio Ellacuría, S.J., a Spanish-born El Salvadoran theologian and human rights activist, was one of eight people, including five other priests, who were assassinated by the Salvadoran military during the country's civil war.
