First Power Generation Assets Arrive at Project Matador

Delivery of Siemens Energy SGT6-5000F gas turbines marks a major milestone as Fermi advances toward first power in the Texas Panhandle.

Fermi has reached another major milestone at Project Matador with the arrival of its first power generation assets at the site near Amarillo, Texas.

The Siemens Energy SGT6-5000F gas turbines traveled thousands of miles from Germany, crossing the Atlantic and arriving at the Port of Houston before beginning the final leg of their journey across Texas to Project Matador.

Each turbine weighs more than 480,000 pounds, requiring extensive planning and coordination to move from the port to the Texas Panhandle. Route surveys, permitted heavy-haul transportation, specialized equipment and escorted convoys were required to safely move the turbines hundreds of miles across the state.

Their arrival represents more than a significant logistics operation. These are the first power generation assets to reach Project Matador and a tangible step toward bringing power generation online at the site.

The milestone comes at a time when access to large-scale generation equipment has become increasingly constrained. Growing global demand for power has pushed manufacturing queues for new generation equipment years into the future, making the ability to secure, transport and deploy equipment a critical part of developing new large-scale infrastructure.

For Fermi, that equipment is now arriving.

Project Matador is being developed to provide the power and infrastructure required for next-generation data centers and artificial intelligence without placing additional demand on the public electric grid. Bringing generation directly to the site is central to that strategy.

The arrival of the SGT6-5000F turbines moves Fermi another step closer to first power and marks the beginning of additional power generation assets making their way to Project Matador.
