Hungary to challenge regulation banning importation of Russian gas before European Court of Justice

Hungary will challenge the regulation banning the importation of Russian gas from 2027 before the European Court of Justice, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Facebook on Monday.

"With its decision adopted today, Brussels would ban the importation of Russian gas from 2027. Just like Tisza," the Prime Minister wrote.

According to Mr Orbán, the Brussels procedure is evidently a sanction which could only have been adopted with unanimity. Hungary will therefore challenge the regulation adopted today before the European Court of Justice, he added.

"We must protect the reduction of household energy bills and the cap on energy bills. There is no compromise on this," the Prime Minister wrote, concluding his post.
