Nearly 100 students ages 13 to 18 gathered at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Monday, February 23, 2026, for the Simi Valley Youth Council's 2nd Annual Youth Impact Forum, themed "Voices for Impact: Addressing Youth Safety in Our Community."
The day-long forum provided students with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about youth safety, civic responsibility, and ways to create positive change within their schools and neighborhoods. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive breakout sessions, students explored practical strategies they could bring back to their campuses, creating a ripple effect of leadership and awareness throughout the community.
"Our young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are actively leading today," said Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh. "When we create opportunities for students to share their perspectives and engage in conversations about issues that affect them, we strengthen our entire community. The thoughtfulness and enthusiasm students brought to this forum was truly inspiring."
Speakers and presenters included Giavanna Pitts, President of the Moorpark College Black Student Union; Frankie Cohen, Executive Director of GiGi's Playhouse; Dr. Angelica Chavez, Principal at Oxnard Middle College High School; and Detective Kellyn King of the Simi Valley Police Department. Each shared perspectives on youth safety, leadership development, and civic engagement, helping spark meaningful conversations and encouraging students to recognize the impact their voices can have in their schools and community.
The event was organized by the Simi Valley Youth Council, City of Simi Valley, and community partners, including the Simi Valley Unified School District who designated the event an educational activity. Additionally, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library provided a distinctive setting for students to engage in dialogue and leadership development.
