Dear colleagues and students
I am pleased to share that the University of Cape Town (UCT) has entered into a strategic partnership with HyperionDev, a global leader in online tech education. This collaboration represents an important step in advancing our commitment to innovative teaching and learning and preparing our students for success in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
Through this partnership, we will introduce a portfolio of high-impact, career-focused online programmes designed to equip students with in-demand digital and leadership skills.
At launch, the offering will include a leadership and management programme, with additional programmes in areas such as full-stack web development, front-end development and cloud computing to follow as part of a broader rollout.
This initiative brings together UCT's academic excellence with HyperionDev's expertise in scalable, outcomes-driven online learning. Students will benefit from a flexible and accessible model that combines industry-relevant curriculum, hands-on learning, mentorship and dedicated career support, delivered through a robust digital platform.
Importantly, this partnership speaks directly to one of our key strategic priorities: widening access to credible, career-focused programmes that meet students where they are. By leveraging HyperionDev's experience in delivering online bootcamps with leading global universities, we are extending UCT's reach to new and diverse student communities across South Africa and beyond.
While HyperionDev will lead key aspects of programme delivery - including curriculum development, student support and marketing - this will be done in close collaboration with UCT to ensure full alignment with our academic standards and institutional values. All programmes will be hosted on UCT-branded digital platforms, ensuring a seamless and high-quality student experience.
Following the formal launch, the first student cohort is expected to commence in June 2026.
This collaboration reflects a broader shift in higher education toward flexible, skills-based learning models that prioritise employability and lifelong learning. Together with HyperionDev, we are proud to be shaping a new standard for collaborative education on the continent.
Sincerely
Professor Brandon Collier-Reed
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
