The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has taken part in the UN Security Council session convened by Korea. In his speech, he called for "peace to come to Ukraine once and for all".
After three and a half years of conflict, he denounced the Russian aggression as "an unacceptable violation of international law and of the values we share as an international community", warning of the seriousness of its being perpetrated by "a permanent member of this council, which is responsible for ensuring world peace".
Pedro Sánchez stressed that any peace agreement "must be firmly anchored in respect for international law and the UN Charter", rejecting "solutions that legitimise violence or the forcible alteration of borders".
He also recalled that Spain supports Ukraine with military and humanitarian aid, the training of more than 8,000 soldiers and the reception of 240,000 displaced persons, once again denouncing the deliberate bombing of civilians and essential infrastructure, as well as the "absolutely unacceptable" violations of European airspace.
