Mayor Shelley Berkley Releases Statement
Serious Incident Led To The Death Of A City Employee Friday
Mayor Shelley Berkley has released the following statement related to a serious incident that resulted in the death of a city employee on Friday, June 12, 2026.
"This unspeakable act of violence has shaken our team. I ask that the community join me in mourning the loss of life of employee Joey McLean Please keep Joey's family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and in your heart," Berkley said. "I want to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for their swift response to take a suspect in custody and thank our city leadership for working with Metro to ensure they have the information they need to complete their investigation."
McLean, a maintenance worker, had been employed with the city since May 2018.
As a result of the investigation, Metro has booked 31-year-old Brysen Kim into Clark County Detention Center for Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon. Kim has been employed with the city as a maintenance worker since January 2025.
Employee assistance is being made available for those in need. Resources will continue to be available to employees in the coming weeks and months as a result of this incident.
