"As we begin the summer months, we enter a significant agricultural pest period," said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. "A recent joint analysis of statewide pest prevention programs shows opportunities in outreach, infrastructure and technology to enhance California's robust pest prevention network."
CDFA, in partnership with the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association (CACASA), commissioned an analysis of the Department's statewide pest prevention programs. This report identifies funding levels that could directly improve infrastructure, staffing, pest exclusion activities, and other programs.
Invited speakers include: Joel Metzger, California Department of Water Resources; Daniel Sumner, University of California Davis; Lindsey Carter, California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association; Neil McRoberts, University of California Davis; Victoria Hornbaker, California Department of Food and Agriculture; Jeff Bitter, Allied Grape Growers; Tim Schmelzer, Wine Institute; Faith Parum, American Farm Bureau Federation and other invited speakers.
California's agricultural economy continues to be impacted by trade disruptions and increasing costs," said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture. "I'm optimistic, as we hear updates from industry, that the sector will rebound, and farmers and ranchers will find a path forward."
The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials, as well as agricultural representatives and residents to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
