Individuals, families, or groups can volunteer to be part of monthly cleanups at Berkeley's waterfront and Aquatic Park.

On the third Saturday of each month through August, volunteers start by gathering at the Shorebird Park Nature Center at 9:00 am for a service-learning presentation and safety talk. We'll provide all the supplies you'll need.

When possible, staff and volunteers sort, tally, and weigh collected plastic to assess its impact.

We recommend that everyone - especially large groups - register in advance so we can plan accordingly. Individuals or small groups can register in person upon arrival.

Third Saturday Shoreline Cleanups

Each monthly cleanup starts at Shorebird Park Nature Center, 160 University Ave, from 9 am-11 am (unless stated otherwise) and all ages are welcome. Youth under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Youth ages 15 through 17 may participate on their own but must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver in person at the event.

Start by learning about plastic pollution and its harmful effects on wildlife through a brief presentation. Then grab supplies and head to designated shoreline areas to help clean up.

We'll provide all supplies, including gloves, buckets, and a map of the targeted locations. Come for as long as you want and, before leaving, return the trash to the Nature Center.

Bike parking is available at the park. Public transit is accessible via AC Transit #51B.

These cleanups are just some of the many events, camps, classes and other activities organized year-round by the City's Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront Department. Get a glimpse of the Recreation Division's offerings for people of all ages and incomes through our online registration portal.

Come out to our next cleanup and enjoy a day of learning, community service, and shoreline beautification.
