The University of West Florida Police Department has achieved reaccreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation through 2029. Accreditation increases the department's ability to prevent and control crime through effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services.
"As an agency, we understand the importance of accreditation," said UWF Police Chief Roman Jackson. "We view it not as a finish line, but as a commitment to continuous improvement. We look forward to continuing our efforts, always working towards perfection while remaining excellent in all that we do."
UWF Police were required to comply with numerous standards in order to receive reaccreditation. Many of the standards are critical to life, health, safety issues and best practices. A team of assessors from the CFA visited UWFPD last November to reexamine all aspects of the department's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. Out of 235 standards reviewed, 173 were found in compliance, 62 were not applicable and zero were out of compliance. This report reflects that UWF was favorably reviewed, achieving the highest quality standards.
The assessment team noted that the UWFPD were professional, kind, courteous and displayed a positive attitude towards the accreditation process. With interviews and observations confirming policies are followed by all employees, the assessment team concluded that the UWFPD meets the standards for accreditation.
The UWF Police Department is an integral part of the University community. The mission of the department is to support the values of the University in enhancing the quality of life and academic goals in a safe and secure educational environment.
