"Free Rabies Clinic Offered by the Chemung County Health Department"
ELMIRA - The Chemung County Health Department, in conjunction with the Town of Van Etten, will be offering the following free rabies vaccination clinic to New York State residents:
Banfield Square Park in Van Etten
6 Gee St., Van Etten, NY 14889
Thursday, October 2, 2025
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Pre-registration is required. The link for pre-registration can be found on Chemung County's website (www.chemungcountyny.gov/rabies). Please arrive at your scheduled appointment time.
Cats, dogs, and ferrets, three months of age or older, must be on a leash or in a carrier and under the control of a responsible adult. The Chemung County Health Department reminds dog and cat owners to bring proof of a previous rabies vaccination so their pets can receive a three-year certificate.
To ensure the smooth operation of the clinic, it's recommended that owners have one adult per pet. Dog owners should also come prepared to clean up after their animals in case accidents occur. Cat owners without carriers should consult with clinic staff before removing their animal from their vehicle.
The NYS Sanitary Code and Public Health Law require that all cats, dogs, and ferrets (four months of age or older) be vaccinated to prevent rabies. Please be aware that pet owners who do not comply with NYS Public Health Law rabies vaccination requirements may be subject to a fine of up to $200. Free rabies clinics are provided at least every four months throughout the year, so there should be no excuse for a pet owner not to vaccinate their pet. Residents are urged to take advantage of these free clinics to be responsible pet owners and avoid violating the law.
For more information or special assistance at the clinic, contact the Chemung County Health Department at 607-737-2019 or [email protected].
