Congresswoman Tenney Applauds President Trump’s Leadership Ensuring Troops Are Paid and Women and Children Are Supported During Democrat Shutdown

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today applauded President Donald J. Trump's decisive leadership and commitment to protecting America's military families and vulnerable women and children during the ongoing Democrat-led government shutdown.

Under National Security Presidential Memorandum-8, President Trump directed the Department of War to use available funds to ensure active-duty and reserve service members receive their full pay and benefits on time. The order prevented an unacceptable lapse in paychecks for the men and women who defend our nation, guaranteeing military readiness and security.

At the same time, President Trump authorized a $300 million emergency infusion to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), ensuring millions of mothers and children continue to receive access to nutritious food, infant formula, and essential support. The Administration used unspent tariff revenues to keep WIC operating through the end of October, preventing closures and hunger across the country.

"President Trump stepped in where the Democrats have failed," said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. "While Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries play politics with people's lives, President Trump is making sure our troops are paid and our most vulnerable families are fed. That is what real leadership looks like. It's time for Democrats to stop using the government as a political weapon and join Republicans in reopening it for the American people. The American people deserve better than a shutdown fueled by political games."
