D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Man In Shooting Of Security Guard In Midtown

April 27, 2026

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of SHAQUEAL PARKER, 31, for allegedly shooting a 49-year-old security guard working at a supportive housing residence in Midtown in March 2026. PARKER is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree. He is also charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. [1]

"As alleged, Shaqueal Parker committed a brazen shooting that left a dedicated security guard, who was doing his job protecting residents, with significant physical injuries," said District Attorney Bragg. "This attack unfolded on a crowded Midtown street, putting countless New Yorkers at risk of being harmed. Thankfully, the shooting was nonfatal, and I wish the victim a full recovery as he continues to heal."

As alleged in court documents and statements made on the record in court, PARKER was banned from entering or visiting a supportive housing residence, near East 28th Street and Madison Avenue. Despite the fact that PARKER did not live at the residence, he attempted to enter on multiple occasions.

On March 30, 2026, moments prior to the shooting, PARKER approached the security guard, who was returning to work from lunch, and confronted him about the ban. At approximately 12:25 p.m., PARKER allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the guard, who was unarmed, at close range. The shots struck him in the abdomen, piercing and fracturing his spine and damaging his intestines. The security guard was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he received extensive treatment, including two surgeries.

PARKER allegedly immediately fled the scene. While fleeing, he changed his clothing, taking off his sweatshirt and hiding it in his backpack. PARKER was arrested on April 7, 2026, at his girlfriend's home.

Assistant D.A.s Joseph Abrams and Abigail Balfour are handling the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. David Hammer (Chief of Trial Bureau 70), and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Trial Preparation Assistants Mariana Zieve-Cohen (Trial Bureau 70) and Jasmine Berger (Trial Bureau 70) are providing valuable assistance in the case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective Christopher Olsen of the 13th Precinct Detective Squad, Detective Danielle Venuto of the Manhattan South Homicide Squad, and Detective Brendan Bradley of the NYPD Warrant Section.
