Colorado Accelerates Quantum Leadership: Governor Polis, State Officials Celebrate New Quantum Facility

BOULDER - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) joined members of Elevate Quantum, CU Boulder, Colorado State University, and Colorado School of Mines to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a new 13,000-square-foot facility in East-Boulder. Office space for growing quantum companies and state-of-the-art scientific equipment will give these entities a physical space to transform ideas for quantum technologies into products that will benefit consumers in Colorado and beyond.

"Colorado is the national hub for innovation in the fast-growing quantum industry and this new incubator will strengthen the industry in our state. By bringing together our world-class higher education system with the companies who are helping to shape the future of computing, this incubator will help drive forward the next chapter for quantum in Colorado, driving more jobs and economic development," said Governor Jared Polis.

Quantum technologies could include sensors for detecting signs of illness in human breath or enhance cybersecurity with networks that one day send data that can't be hacked over long distances. The new facility celebrated today is the second Colorado quantum site to be announced in recent months. In September 2024, Gov. Polis and OEDIT joined the Department of Commerce to break ground on the new Quantum Tech Park in Arvada.

Both facilities were made possible by support from the Colorado Quantum Fund, established by HB24-1325 - Tax Credits for Quantum Industry Support and sponsored by Representatives Alex Valdez and Matt Soper, and Senators Jeff Bridges and Mark Baisley. The Colorado Quantum Fund provides $74 million dollars for refundable quantum tax credits, including support for the creation of quantum facilities to develop new quantum technologies, businesses and jobs.

"Colorado's new quantum facilities will help turn discoveries in the lab into real-world applications, continuing our leadership in quantum science and creating thousands of new jobs for Coloradans," said Eve Lieberman, executive director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. "We are excited to celebrate this milestone and look forward to the achievements it will bring to our state."

The Colorado Quantum Fund will further support the development of new quantum businesses and jobs through the Colorado Quantum Fund for Innovative Lending, which promotes access to capital for quantum companies by encouraging lenders to offer favorable loans to quantum companies.
