Granville Resident Charged with Aggravated Assault with a Weapon

The Attorney General's Office today announced that Mark Balch, 34, of Granville, Vermont, was arraigned on charges of felony Aggravated Assault with a Weapon and misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment. The charges brought against Mr. Balch are the result of a criminal investigation conducted by the Vermont State Police, which found Mr. Balch discharged his firearm at an occupied vehicle while attempting to have a confrontation with the vehicle's occupant.

Mr. Balch pleaded not guilty at today's arraignment in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division. The Court, Judge Robert Katims presiding, ordered the Defendant released on conditions that restrict his access to firearms and any contact with the victim.

The Attorney General's Office emphasizes that individuals charged with a crime are legally presumed innocent until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
