Beginning Sunday, March 1, Bird will implement a new late night safety measure for its e-scooter micromobility service in downtown Greensboro. To prioritize rider safety, and in response to riding and usage patterns observed by the Greensboro Police Department, e-scooter speeds will be temporarily reduced from 15 mph to 10 mph between 1 and 2 a.m.
During this time, riders will see an in-app notification at the start of their trip, reminding them of the speed reduction. In addition, any rider starting service after 10 pm will be required to pass a Safe Start Cognitive test. The device will remain locked for riders who are unable to pass the test.
These changes reflect the shared commitment of the City of Greensboro and Bird to allow for safe and responsible micromobility for all users and the broader community.
For questions or concerns about Bird rides and this change, contact Mary Harward, City of Greensboro BiPed coordinator, at 336-373-7576. Refer to the attached map for details on where the speed reductions will apply.
