Amo Exposes “Real State of the Union” Under Donald Trump

PROVIDENCE, RI - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) exposed the true state of the union under Trump, sharing the stories of Rhode Islanders who have been devastated by chaos, cruelty, and high costs.

Since Trump's inauguration, families have been hit hard by his tariffs, health care cuts, attacks on our social safety net, and draconian immigration crackdown. This week, to raise the alarm ahead of the state of the union, Amo met with Rhode Islanders who have been directly hurt by this dangerous agenda.

Amo also announced that Erin Spaulding, Executive Director of Connecting for Children and Families in Woonsocket, will be his invited guest for Trump's State of the Union. Amo also shared that he will not be attending the President's tirade but rather sharing the stories of Rhode Islanders who have been hurt by Trump.

"This week, I heard from Rhode Islanders who are struggling because of President Trump and his cronies in Congress." said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). "The pocketbooks of Rhode Islanders are stretched thin, seniors are anxious, and communities feel afraid because of Trump. While the President spreads more lies from the House Floor, I will be focused on the people he's hurting. Under Trump the state of our union is endangered, but I remain committed to fighting back to keep Rhode Islanders and our values safe."

Amo's Real State of the Union Stops

This week Congressman Amo traveled across the First District this week speaking to Rhode Islanders hurt by Trump.

On Monday, Amo visited the FeedRI Hope Market which is helping Rhode Islanders put food on the table while Republicans are squeezing budgets.

On Tuesday, Amo met with Reentry College Program leaders to discuss how Trump's threats to cut Pell Grants are making it harder for Rhode Islanders to get an education and a second chance.

On Wednesday, Amo toured the nearly complete Danoff Life Sciences Laboratories at Brown University to highlight the impact of Trump's $32 billion in science funding cuts. Amo then participated in a citizenship ceremony in Providence to celebrate those proud to become Americans, despite Trump's attacks on immigrant communities. Later, Amo spoke with union offshore wind workers at Carpenters Union Local 330 whose jobs are at risk because of Trump's vendetta against clean energy.

Today, Amo met with seniors in Middletown to discuss their health care fears given Trump's $500 billion in Medicare cuts over the next decade.
