This is part of a series of profiles of new UC Merced Bobcats enrolled for the fall 2026 semester.
After moving from Nigeria to the United States two years ago, Wonderful Ezieme built a new foundation in California, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated student and active member of his high school community. He balanced academics with athletics while nurturing a growing interest in neuroscience.
Where I come from: I went to University Preparatory School in Victorville.
What I've done: I was a straight-A student throughout high school. I've been on the honor roll two years. I competed in track and field (100 meters, shot put and discus), and I joined clubs such as the California Scholarship Federation and Chess Club.
Why I am excited about coming to UC Merced: I want to explore new places. I want to be at Yosemite every week. I want to do a lot of research as a neuroscience major, and I want the academic satisfaction of attending a top 25 college.
My academic and personal goals: I want to become a neurosurgeon, psychologist, researcher or professor. Personally, I want to become more open, strong and partake in a lot of campus activities. I hope to become a strong-willed and kind person.
How I relax: I like to read, sing or watch shows.
What's my superpower? I can hyper-focus on something for hours on end, but it isn't a power I can easily activate.
If I could teleport anywhere in the world for a three-day weekend, I would go to: Somewhere in the Sahara Desert, a random rainforest or anywhere in Europe like London, Sweden or Paris.
