The Frostburg State University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducted 28 new members during a ceremony held on March 28 in the Gira Center for Communication and Information Technology.
New members initiated into the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines include 12 undergraduate students, 15 graduate students and one faculty member.
Undergraduate students installed into Phi Kappa Phi are Emma Durst, Skylar Ehart, Jaclyn Fresh, Haley Himes, Allison Kitchel, Macie McKinley, Jayme Moyer, Jennifer Pumphrey, Patricia Rosinski, Wren Shaffer, Rachael Sutton and Trinity Winstead.
Graduate inductees are Samragyi Acharya, Nargina Barnett, Babak Bayan, Tallen Conway, Jada Dauberman, William Gorman, Amanda Langsdale, David Martin, Tatiana Megarry, Justin Ridenour, Marcus Stuart, Kimberly Tracy, Steven Van Bennekum, Symphony Walkley and Valerie Ziegler.
Dr. Kristine McGee, professor in the Department of Educational Professions, was inducted as a faculty initiate.
"We are proud to induct this outstanding group of new members as we continue to grow FSU's chapter of Phi Kappa Phi in the tradition of scholarly excellence," said FSU chapter president Dr. Linda Steele.
These honorees are among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 90 and 72 semester hours respectively, are eligible for membership. Graduate and professional students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
