Washington, D.C. - Representative Dave Min (CA-47)'s amendment to the Electric Supply Chain Act, which would expand the electric grid through the use of new innovations like reconductoring, successfully passed out of the House floor earlier today. This amendment, which received broad bipartisan support, would require periodic reports on the feasibility of advanced transmission technologies such as advanced conductors, which present a unique opportunity to upgrade the electric grid we already have while ensuring new infrastructure is more efficient, resilient, and affordable. Orange County is home to leading manufacturers of advanced conductors in CTC Global and TS Conductor, whose technologies are being used to modernize California's electric grid, bring down energy costs for households, and strengthen our electric grid against worsening wildfires.
"In my district and across the country, families are seeing soaring energy costs brought on by load growth and extreme weather, including wildfires," said Rep. Min. "An aging and inefficient grid is bottlenecking the growing demand for new and reliable power, causing prices to go up and limiting the electrons that can reach areas that need this electricity. We must meet this challenge, grow our economy, and bring down the energy bills that are rising so quickly and crushing so many of our constituents today."
He continued, "Using advanced conductors can double the capacity of existing transmission lines, and over 100,000 miles of lines can currently benefit from these technologies. Importantly, these technologies have minimal land use. Impacts can be installed without the decades-long permitting timelines required for new lines and increase the resiliency of the grid against wildfires, helping keep districts like mine safe from the growing threats of these natural disasters that are often under severe fire risk."
