Bowie State University Hosts Prince George’s Film Festival

Students Will Learn From Disney and Mattel TV Animation Executives

(BOWIE, Md.) - Filmmakers, actors, producers and film enthusiasts will come together to participate in film screenings, panel discussions and workshops at the third annual Prince George's Film Festival.Activities are scheduled to be held at the MGM Hotel and Casino at National Harbor, Prince George's County Community College, Greenbelt Cinema and Bowie State University.

This year's "Prince George's Film Festival - Take Three" will be held from Sept. 26 - 29. Presented by the Prince George's County Arts and Humanities Council and Prince George's County Film Office, it will highlight the immense talent pool and creativity that exists in the county. On Saturday, the festival's activities will be held at Bowie State where attendees will have the opportunity to view animated films and home-grown projects.

"We have some of the top African American animators participating in the Prince George's Film Festival at Bowie State University on Saturday," said Tewodross Williams, chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. "All of the speakers bring decades of experience in animation and will provide session attendees and our students with insight into where the industry is going."

Panelists include Tiffany Thomas, writer for "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder," Disney's popular animated production; Sydney Clifton, head of creative animation for Mattel TV; Keith White, founder and head of partnerships of the Afro Animation Conference; and Ferdy Adimefe, owner of Magic Carpet Animation Studios in Lagos, Nigeria.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the film festival will host a free community screening of "The Game That Changed College Basketball" at the Greenbelt Cinema at 6:00 p.m.

The festival kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 26 with a red-carpet reception and opening night premier screening of "Albany Road" at Prince George's Community College. Panel discussions and competitive in-person film screenings run all day on Friday at PGCC.

"All of our film screenings, panel discussions and networking on Saturday will occur in the Dionne Warwick Theater and other performing spaces in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on Bowie State University's campus," said Williams. "We're looking forward to our neighbors from Prince George's County and friends from around the Mid-Atlantic Region attending the Film Festival."

In addition to screenings and discussions about animated films at Bowie State, there will be a panel to discuss how immersive media, virtual reality, AI and other technology is changing how films are produced.

Actress, director and producer Victoria Rowell will take center stage at the festival's Closing Celebration Brunch and participate in conversation at the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino's Grand Ballroom on Sunday afternoon.
