Everett, MA - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins spoke at the 11th annual World Medical Innovation Forum hosted by Mass General Brigham. Senator Collins was the featured guest for a fireside chat hosted by David Brown, MD, the President of Academic Medical Centers at Mass General Brigham. The World Medical Innovation Forum welcomes thousands of representatives from more than 650 health care, biotech, investment, and government organizations.
Senator Collins discussed numerous issues related to both health care and the federal government, including her opposition to the proposed arbitrary cap on indirect costs for NIH-funded research and cuts to Medicaid funding in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). She also spoke about her support for biomedical and vaccine research, the importance of national health agencies and global health programs, and the process by which her $50 billion fund for rural health care providers became the Rural Hospital Transformation Fund included in the final text of the OBBBA, even with her opposing final passage of the bill.
"It was a great honor to be invited to speak at the World Medical Innovation Forum and hear firsthand from so many experts driving innovation and patient care," said Senator Collins. "From strengthening our health agencies and supporting rural hospitals, to ensuring access to Medicaid and advancing medical breakthroughs, our work must focus on protecting patients, empowering researchers, and maintaining America's global leadership in health and science."
Last week, Senator Collins was awarded the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) Congressional Medicaid Champion Award. ANCOR, a nonpartisan network of providers for people with disabilities, honored Senator Collins with the award for her advocacy for Medicaid and people with disabilities during the consideration of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
