SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University welcomed its spring semester students during a Convocation ceremony held Friday, January 9 in Erma Ora Byrd Hall. The event marked the start of the spring semester and celebrated the academic journeys of more than 100 newly enrolled students.
Student leadership was represented by Logan Morgan, vice president of the Student Government Association, who addressed attendees with words of encouragement and inspired students to take advantage of campus resources, become actively involved, and contribute to the vibrant campus culture.
Dr. Jessica Graham, assistant professor, Health Promotion and Exercise Science coordinator, and director of the Human Performance Laboratory, shared insights on the role of academic programs in preparing students for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.
University President Mary J.C. Hendrix concluded the program by delivering the official welcome to campus, emphasizing the importance of participation in the Shepherd community, and reflecting on lessons drawn from her own experience as a Shepherd University undergraduate.
Following the event, Dr. Jack DeRochi, provost and vice president of academic affairs, emphasized the importance of the Convocation tradition for new students.
"Convocation is an important moment to welcome our students and reaffirm our shared commitment to learning, discovery, and personal growth," said Dr. DeRochi. "Our faculty and staff are dedicated to supporting students as they pursue their goals, challenge themselves intellectually, and engage fully in the life of the University."
Shepherd University Convocation ceremonies provide an opportunity to welcome students to the Ram Family and highlight the academic expectations and resources available to support student success throughout the semester.
