The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority invites Escambia County residents to join in observing Drinking Water Week, May 3-9. Led by the American Water Works Association, the annual observance highlights the importance of clean, reliable drinking water and recognizes the dedicated work of the ECUA's water professionals. These team members continuously operate and maintain the Authority's 30 drinking water wells throughout Escambia County.
Drinking Water Week highlights the vital work performed by water professionals who ensure that high-quality drinking water is delivered to homes and businesses continually. From treatment, testing, maintenance and distribution, the ECUA produces nearly 13 billion gallons of water annually, resulting in an average of 35.4 million gallons daily.
"There's a saying in the industry that water is life," said Don Palmer, Deputy Executive Director of Engineering and Environment Services. "We believe in that saying and very seriously take the responsibility to provide high-quality water that is clean and reliable 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
At the ECUA, Drinking Water Week is a time to appreciate the vital role water plays in daily life. From public health to fire protection to everyday general use, the ECUA water professionals are dedicated to providing high-quality water to over 99,000 customer connections.
The ECUA encourages residents to take part in National Drinking Water Week by doing the following:
Learning about their local water system and how drinking water is treated
Practice water conservation at home
Showing appreciation for water professionals who serve the community
Sharing information about the importance of clean drinking water with family and friends
