Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas congratulates Svitlana Hrynchuk, the newly appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine

Today, Acting Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas congratulated Svitlana Hrynchuk, the newly appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine, and expressed Lithuania's support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security of Ukraine as well as the well-being of its people, both during and after the war.

During his phone call with Minister Hrynchuk, Minister Vaičiūnas emphasised that Lithuania will remain a reliable partner and will continue to support the Ukrainian energy sector: "We are looking for greater energy security in the region. Lithuania will continue to foster the strong bilateral partnership and cooperation between our countries and support Ukraine's efforts to ensure regional energy security, in both the short and long term."

The Lithuanian minister expressed his ongoing concern about Russia's continued military attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, and assured his Ukrainian counterpart that Lithuania would continue to contribute to her country's energy needs. "We are ready to provide emergency assistance - equipment for the repair and reconstruction of critical infrastructure. We also support Ukraine's ambition to decentralise its energy system so that it is more resilient. To achieve this goal, Lithuania has initiated the installation of solar power plants and electricity storage systems for schools, kindergartens and hospitals," said Mr Vaičiūnas.

He also confirmed that the Independence- Lithuania's floating LNG storage and regasification unit operated by AB KN Energies in the Port of Klaipėda - is ready to continue providing services that help Ukraine diversify its gas supply.
