City crews repair more than 16,400 potholes during five-week surge

Today, Mayor Yemi announced City of Colorado Springs Public Works crews repaired more than 16,400 potholes during a five-week surge, including more than 10,000 on residential streets. Mayor Yemi shared the results during a press briefing with Clint Brown, Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division manager. The briefing highlighted the employees who completed the work and the residents whose reports helped crews identify needed repairs across Colorado Springs.

Crews averaged more than 700 pothole repairs per day during the surge, a 60% increase over the City's normal repair pace. The surge helped bring the City's year-to-date total to more than 60,000 potholes repaired, which represents a 56% increase compared with last year's pace.

"Today is about local government delivering results," said Mayor Yemi. "Our residents spoke, and we responded with a five-week pothole repair surge designed to accelerate repairs and aggressively address resident reports. These results happened because our Public Works crews worked tirelessly, and because hundreds of residents became partners by reporting potholes through GoCOS, our website, and other reporting tools."

Prior to the briefing, Mayor Yemi met with a resident in the Pinecliff neighborhood Carl Peterson at the location of a pothole that Peterson had reported through the GoCOS platform. Mayor Yemi was joined by a Public Works crew to help repair the pothole, and the visit demonstrated how a resident report moves from a service request to action in the field.

To date, residents have submitted more than 30,000 requests through the GoCOS platform, including nearly 4,900 pothole requests. Residents can report potholes through the GoCOS app and website or by calling 719-385-ROAD, and they can follow the City's progress through the Pothole Watch dashboard at ColoradoSprings.gov/PotholeWatch.

As the City prepares its proposed 2027 budget, Mayor Yemi said he will continue exploring ways to strengthen the City's pothole repair program to deliver even better service and continue improving Colorado Springs streets.
