EUMAM MOZ joins solidarity initiative by Rodrigues de Freitas School Cluster

Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) joined a solidarity initiative promoted by the Rodrigues de Freitas School Cluster, in Portugal, which resulted in the collection of school supplies for children and young people in Mozambique.

The solidarity action, carried out within the school community, made it possible to collect around 23 kilograms of school supplies, which were transported from Portugal to Mozambique by a military serving within EUMAM MOZ.

The initiative also included letters written by Portuguese students, addressed to the children and young people who received the material, further reinforcing the symbolic value of this act of solidarity.

The distribution of the material was carried out with the support of HELPO, an organisation that works with and supports children and young people in Mozambique, and made it possible to give a meaningful purpose to the gesture of the students from the Rodrigues de Freitas School Cluster, bringing the Portuguese school community closer to the reality of Mozambican children and youth.

Through its involvement in this initiative, EUMAM MOZ reinforces that its mission goes beyond the operational sphere, reflecting an ongoing commitment to proximity, support and cooperation with the population of Mozambique.

The Helpo Association is a Non-Governmental Organisation for Development whose objective is to support the most vulnerable populations by securing funding for the implementation of programmes and projects in the areas of Education, Nutrition and Maternal and Child Health, Humanitarian and Emergency Aid, and Education for Development and Global Citizenship.

EUMAM MOZ continues to operate in full compliance with International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law and the Women, Peace and Security agenda. The Mission is currently commanded by Commodore César Pires Correia of the Portuguese Navy and comprises more than 80 military and civilian personnel from 12 nationalities. Its mandate runs until December 2026.
