Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Friday, January 16, at the McFarland Community Center at 4955 Cottonwood Rd. During the morning, MLGW employee volunteers will gather at the community center to assemble energy conservation kits. Volunteers will then canvas selected streets in the surrounding neighborhood, going door-to-door to distribute the kits and share energy-saving information with residents.
MLGW will also provide educational and energy conservation materials to the students and faculty at the neighboring Evans Elementary School as part of the day's outreach efforts.
At 10 a.m., MLGW will host a presentation focused on energy conservation and weather-related emergency preparedness. Attendees will receive practical information on saving energy, preparing for severe weather and protecting their homes during extreme conditions. Energy kits will also be distributed at the community center while supplies last.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is one of several community outreach events MLGW participates in each year as part of its ongoing commitment to service, education and community engagement. For more information, visit mlgw.com.
