Top 100 Vegan Restaurants in the US 2024

Vegan restaurants are having a moment.Once a niche cuisine, plant-based food-free of animal ingredients-is now a top dining trend, as more consumers choose diets for a healthier body and planet. And vegan chefs are rising to the occasion, crafting fresh, wholesome dishes and comfort-food favorites. In fact, the food they serve earns accolades not only on vegan-restaurant lists, but often on "regular" restaurant lists as well. It's just thatgood.

With World Vegan Day coming up on November 1, we've compiled a list of the Top 100 Vegan Restaurants across the US. These spots showcase culinary talent and creativity across a wide range of vegan cuisines-Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, Italian, and soul food, among others.

Here are the trends drawing diners to plant-based cuisine this year:

Real and raw. Many vegan chefs are skipping meat substitutes, in favor of dishes made only with real veggies and fruits. Los Angeles-area Lil' Vegerie (#1) serves a popular Philly "cheesesteak" bowl of marinated portobello mushroom strips and smoky cheddar cashew cheese. New Jersey's Boomchia (#5) draws crowds for its fruit-based bowls filled with raw, healthy ingredients-no soy or processed plant-based alternatives in sight.

Delicious dupes. Still craving traditional comfort foods? Chefs like Samuel Woods at The Rabbit Hole (#6) in Florida and Daniel Spaulding of Pure Soul (#8) in North Carolina are whipping up plant-based versions of BBQ, mac 'n' cheese, tacos, and more. In Las Vegas, Tarantino's Vegan (#10) kicks things up a notch with an entire menu of veganized Italian classics.

The mighty Mediterranean. Plant-friendly Mediterranean menus, featuring creamy hummus, savory ancient grains, and crispy falafel, are a popular choices for vegans. Two of our top 10 spots celebrate this plant-leaning cuisine: Florida's The Mediterranean Chickpea (#2) and California's Vegan Stops (#7).

Methodology: This is an all-time list of the Top 100 Vegan Restaurantsin the United States, according to Yelp. We identified restaurants in the vegan category with 5 or fewer locations, then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews. We only included up to 10 businesses per state for geographic diversity. All businesses were marked openon Yelp as of July 25, 2024. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of July 25, 2024.

Fresh bowls, salads, and juices are the stars of the show at this #1 spot for the vegan-curious."I'm not trying to make anyone vegan," says chef-owner and former vegan skeptic Jason Cervantes. "I'm showing people that this food can taste good." After trying a shockingly delicious vegan burger at a local spot, Jason was hooked. He started cooking plant-based meals at home with his nutritionist fiancée, Scarlett Curtis, and later vowed to open a cafe with 3 goals: "to make [vegan food] quick, clean, and delicious," he says.

Lil' Vegerie opened May 2022 promising "no soy, no chemicals, no gluten, no processed" cooking-and no vegan versions of fast foods on the menu. Southern Californians have rewarded this approach, catapulting the cafe to #1 in Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in LA County 2023 Collection. The "seriously delicious " Ahi Beet Poke bowl-with sesame and nori-marinated beets on shredded greens, veggies, and rice-is a consistent fan fave, along with the Philly Cheesesteak bowl, which swaps steak for strips of marinated portobello mushrooms mixed with a house-made smoky cheddar cashew cheese. "I'd put it up against any steak sandwich in the area-and it would crush," says fan Jonathan R.

Yelpers say:"I was blown away by all the options and flavors. It's so hard for me to find meat substitutes at restaurants, usually they just remove the meat and then it's not the same meal. But here I could get a vegan Philly Cheesesteak bowl or a Mushroom Carne Asada bowl and feel satisfied with the taste." -Yelp Elite Eryn G.

This South Tampa Middle Eastern eatery is winning local awards-and top rankings on Yelp vegan lists (#1 on Yelp's Top 100 Vegan Restaurants 2022; #2 on this year's list)-for its veg-leaning fare. Chef-owner Mouna Alchabab never intended on running a vegan restaurant-Middle Eastern cuisine just happens to be veggie-forward, says her daughter Maya Alzaiem. "We love our chickpeas."

Mouna has been making hummus and baba ghanoush dips since 2010-first as a caterer, then for markets around Tampa. By 2018, the demand for her "smooth and creamy" spreads was so high, she set up a permanent shop. Today, the restaurant serves 7 house-made dips-including American-inspired twists like her Cilantro-Jalapeno Hummus-alongside crispy, made-to-order falafel wraps and bowls; protein-packed fava bean salads; and "light and flavorful< /a>" pies stuffed with spinach and onion. "We make feel-good food," Maya says.Yelpers say:"I had the falafel bowl, which came with fattoush, lentils, baba ghanoush, and pita. Everything tasted super fresh, especially the fattoush. The acidity in it was just perfect. The falafels were deliciously crispy…and the baba ghanoush was heavenly!" -Yelp Elite Anna P.

Date-sweetened smoothies, fresh juice "remedies," and hearty wraps and snacks draw crowds to this downtown vegan cafe, owned and operated by Dana and Chauncey Padilla. There are no fryers, minimal oils are used, and almost everything is crafted in-house. Every morning, Chauncey makes gallons of fresh almond and coconut milk from scratch for the shop's popular blender drinks-Nilly Vanilly (cinnamon, banana, protein, and coconut milk) and Maca Java (coffee, cacao, maca, dates, cinnamon, and almond milk), to name a few. Raw options include a "wonderful" Raw Veggie Tart-a pecan and walnut crust filled with fermented cashew cheese and topped with caramelized onions, tomatoes and mushrooms-as well as a Rainbow Wrap, a collard green wrapped around a paté of sunflower seeds, jicama, bell peppers, and more.

Dana, a lifelong vegetarian, says customers keep coming back because they "feel good after they eat here. A lot of our clientele are very conscientious about what they put in their bodies, and we're here for them."

Yelpers say: "​​All of the food is fresh, healthy, and tasty. The owner suggested a smoothie that I would have otherwise never tried, and I loved it so much. It was the smoothie with dates and ginger, and it's my favorite smoothie now! I had the salad with rice noodles, and the mint in it made it soyummy. I also tried the energy balls, and [they were] super yummy with cacao. The chia seed pudding-I am now addicted to it!" -Cracker C.

Siblings Heather Golden Ray and Jenny Engel were already SoCal vegan superstars-helming a top vegan cooking school and publishing two vegan cookbooks-when they opened this trendy Culver City cafe in 2023. Crowned #1 by Yelp on the 25 hot & new women-owned restaurants 2024 list, the kitchen now draws rave reviews, even from nonvegan Yelpers: "Honestly," says David M. after having what he called the best "chicken" sandwich in town, "I used to feel bad for vegans-no more!"

Popular items include tacos filled with "fresh and tasty" jackfruit carnitas and the "super flavorful" Mediterranean Chickpea sandwich with a crispy house-made chickpea patty. But it's their signature warm bowls-like the Hearty Beef Crumble and the Backyard BBQ Tofu with "beautifully balanced flavors and textures"-that have Yelpers awarding accolades. On Mondays, customers who order an entree can choose a free native pollinator plant (while supplies last) to help attract bees and other pollinators to their gardens.

Yelpers say: "I got the Crispy Chicken sandwich [made with plant-based 'chicken'], and it was phenomenal. I am a major omnivore, but you wouldn't miss the meat here. Great texture, fresh veggies, and the best part are the shoestring onions. Nice savory sandwich that very much hit the spot." -Yelp Elite Bradford H.

Exotic fruits, rich chia pudding with blue spirulina, and crunchy granola-fill up your bowl for a single price at this vegan Jersey joint. All-inclusive rates and great customer service are the secrets to success for owner Josh Baek-a former personal trainer and self-proclaimed foodie: "We're a fast-casual place that operates like a Michelin-rated restaurant," he says.

Doling out delicious desserts that are good for you since 2021, this local hotspot ranked #1 on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in New Jersey in 2022 and #21 on our Top 100 Restaurants in the US in 2024. Yelpers love loading up their bowls with "ridiculously yummy" Boomchia pudding, "not too sweet" açaí bases, fresh strawberries, bananas, cocoa nibs, goji berries, and organic cashew butter. All utensils and containers are made from biodegradable plastic substitutes, part of Josh's vision for personal and global health. "Being healthy and having an interest in environmental health go hand in hand," he says.

Yelpers say:"This bowl is one of themost delicious things I have eaten in a long time! A layer of matcha and açaí purees, Boomchia pudding (chia pudding with spirulina), ancient grains granola, hemp, chia and flax seeds, strawberries and blueberries, dried goji and mulberries, toasted coconut and cacao nibs, tiny bit of almond butter, and drizzle of agave syrup. Healthy and good for you, [and extremely] yummy. I could eat this every single day." -Yelp Elite Lisa B.

Pick a dish, any dish, and The Rabbit Hole probably has a plant-based alternative for it. Sweet chili wings? Got it. Chicken and cheese quesadilla? No problem. How about surf 'n' turf? BBQ stir fry? Patty melt with fries? Yes, yes, and yes. At this Black-owned community diner-featured in Yelp's 2023 Top 100 Florida Restaurants list at #19-you'll find a vast menu of "elevated vegan cuisine" guaranteed to satisfy vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, and omnivores alike. According to Chef Samuel Woods, "I like to take any recipe or any type of cuisine I can think of and 'veganize' it."

A classically trained chef (and a vegan for years), Samuel created The Rabbit Hole after a trip to Europe in 2018. Inspired by scientific advances in plant-based eating abroad, he uses meat substitutes made by companies in a variety of countries. His Wyngs, for example (which Yelpers say are "out of this world< /span>"), are sourced from a European plant-based chicken substitute producer called Daring. Chef Samuel marinates the Wyngs for 6 days, to ensure the plant fibers absorb the spices and flavor, before they're triple-dredged and tossed in one of his 15 sauces. Samuel's goal is to keep pushing vegan cuisine, breaking stereotypes, and making converts out of skeptical meat eaters. "[It's] one of the best vegan restaurants in SoFlo, especially for soul food options!" says Yelp Elite Stephen L.

Yelpers say:"From the moment you walk into this restaurant, you feel like home-cooked food awaits. Every dish is crafted with care, bursting with flavor, and showcases the versatility and creativity of vegan cuisine. From soulful classics to innovative twists, there's something for everyone on the menu." -Eric S.

You won't find mock meats or fast-food dupes at this tiny SoCal takeout spot."We're just making good, healthy food," says owner Mohammad Takwa. Mohammad says most of his customers aren't vegan-they're just hooked on homestyle dishes made exclusively with healthy olive and avocado oils.

Mohammad's stepmother helms the kitchen, crafting authentic Mediterranean dishes from 4 generations of Syrian family recipes. All beans are soaked and sprouted overnight to avoid bloating, Mohammad says. And cilantro and other plants are soaked in a sea-salt-and-vinegar mix to add flavor. Popular dishes include a roasted cauliflower drizzled in tahini sauce, as well as a trio of "super delicious " bulgur pilafs topped with veggies like caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and green peppers. Vegan Stops also ships any menu item to customers across the country.

Yelpers say: "I'm not even vegan and all the items were delicious! The store really isn't meant for sit-down eating, but I had such a great time choosing (and consuming) 5 of their dishes! [The] lentil and bowtie pasta was oozing with flavor and was delicious when heated up. The lentils are so soft and flavorful, and the pasta keeps its texture." -Yelp Elite Andy P.

Seaweed-based bacon, shrimp made from konjac root, and a top-secret plant-basedfried "chicken" are just a few of the top bites at this "true Southern vegan gem ." Owned and operated by vegan buddies Andrew Justad and Nikolas Spaulding (also the head chef), Pure Soul is a "happy middle ground," where both vegans andmeat eaters enjoy flavorful plant-based meals. "We're not the healthiest vegan restaurant around," Nik admits. "Even vegans want a sloppy burger sometimes." Local Yelpers agree, voting the hotspot #1 on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in the Carolinas.

The duo say their menu isn't just about the food: It's the comfort and memories that the dishes bring. "We had a lactose-intolerant lady cry one time because she hadn't had mac 'n' cheese in years," Nik remembers. Locally sourced produce is key to their success, Andrew says. Whether it's the cabbage and collard greens in the Bilbo's Greens side salad (named after Nik's father), or the black-eyed peas, carrots, and kale in the fan-favorite stewed Soul Bowl, 80% of their produce is grown nearby. The restaurant is also committed to biodegradable packaging, composted food scraps, livable wages for employees, and community events that spotlight local small businesses. "We believe in a cyclical type of production," says Andrew. "We all have to live here and breathe the same air."

Yelpers say: "I had the pleasure of trying their vegan soulful versions of classic dishes, and each one was a delightful surprise. The 'shrimp,' 'chikn,' mac n 'chez,' collards, coleslaw, black-eyed peas, and cornbread were all bursting with flavor and soul." -Yelp Elite Cece M.

Shortly after Sondra and Ben Kelley openedtheir homespun vegan cafe in 2018, it snagged the #1spoton Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021.Since then, the awards have kept coming, along with droves of Harpers Ferry tourists and dining guests, who praise the husband-and-wife team for their "​​redefined vegan cuisine."

Kelley Farm's menu features both comfort-food look-alikes-hot dogs, mac 'n' cheese, and burgers-as well as hoagies filled with slow-cooked BBQ jackfruit and grilled seitan (wheat gluten). Also popular: creamy coconut or spicy curry ramen bowls, a gargantuan nacho platter, and "chik'n" subs stacked with dairy-free cheeses and trimmings. Don't miss the oat milk soft-serve ice cream that Yelpers describe as "extremely creamy with a great consistency." The Kelleys even supply a blackboard menu of nearby hiking trails to work off your meal.

Yelpers say:"As a vegan in West Virginia, I didn't think I'd be lucky enough to have such a delightful all-vegan restaurant! The location is the perfect spot to grab a bite or hang out. Their Garlic-Onion burger is to die for, and the Buffalo Ranch Chik'n sandwich is one of the best in the country (trust me, I've tried a lot!). This is a can't-miss spot!" -Jake S.

Mamma mia! This family-owned Italian vegan restaurantmakes the leap from #46 on our 2022 list of Top 100 Vegan Restaurantsto the Top 10 this year.When Chef Michael Tarantino opened the doors of Las Vegas' first all-vegan restaurant in 2020, it kicked off the city's vegan trend. Michael's vegan wife Sarah was the inspiration for this fast-casual restaurant. "[The menu] is consistent with what he's cooked his whole life, but made completely with plants," Sarah says.

Crispy "chicken" parmigiana is available as both a sandwich and entree, along with vegan pastas, pizzas, and classic Italian desserts like cannoli and tiramisu. Plant-based substitutes for meats and cheeses (sans meat, dairy, and canola seed oils) are made fresh in-house every day, and there are many gluten-free options as well. Start your vegan tour of Italy with appetizers like the "big taste sensati on" zucchini sticks and "must try" "crab" cakes made with hearts of palm. The Caesar salad, with its house-made dressing, is "bursting with fl avor" and has become a staple for guests.

Yelpers say: "This restaurant is just like the Italian restaurant we used to go to before we became vegans. Their eggplant parmigiana, Chick'n parmigiana, lasagna, and fettuccine Alfredo are worth the 5-hour drive. It is genuinely Italiano! Their desserts are also to die for. I always get the tiramisu because I know how hard it is to make this dessert." -Yelp Elite Debbie K.
