SBS LAUNCHES REVAMPED MOBILE UNIT TO BRING SBS RESOURCES AND SERVICES DIRECTLY INTO NYC NEIGHBORHOODS
New "Mobie" Will Meet New Yorkers Where They Are, Connect City's Small Businesses and Jobseekers with Free Resources
Launch Comes as SBS, City Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with Events Across NYC
NEW YORK - Today, the New York City Department of Small Business Services unveiled its new-and-improved SBS Mobile Unit. The SBS Mobile Unit, or "Mobie" for short, will greatly enhance SBS's ability to bring SBS resources directly into neighborhoods across New York City, meeting New Yorkers where they are, and expanding access to City services to historically undeserved communities in all five boroughs. New Yorkers and community-based organizations looking to bring Mobie to their neighborhood are encouraged to fill out the revamped SBS Mobile Unit Request Form.
"At SBS, we know that the two things every small business owner needs more of are time and money - and that's what the SBS Mobile Unit aims to save," said SBS Commissioner Kenny Minaya. "By bringing free resources and services directly into the city's neighborhoods and commercial corridors, we are meeting New Yorkers where they are and giving them direct access to SBS's full suite of programming without the hassle of wasting precious time traveling across town. I'm excited to put this new mobile unit to the test, and to connect even more New Yorkers with resources ranging from NYC BEST, Commercial Lease Assistance, M/WBE certification, and more."
"Mobie" offers a full suite of services and resources to New York City small business owners, entrepreneurs, and jobseekers, including free WiFi, printer, and a private space for sensitive, one-on-one business consultation. The new SBS Mobile Unit replaces an older unit and is expected to increase SBS's ability to reach into neighborhoods by 30 percent in Fiscal Year 2027 alone.
The new SBS Mobile Unit builds on the success of its predecessor, which helped facilitate nearly 500 events in neighborhoods in all five boroughs of the city, reaching thousands of New Yorkers. In that time, "Mobie" has driven on a combined 11,575 miles of city streets and reached some of the most underserved communities in ZIP Codes in New York City, while "Mobie" became an unofficial mascot for the agency, appearing on both social media and SBS promotional materials.
More about the SBS Mobile Unit can be learned through a new video :
The launch of the new SBS Mobile Unit coincides with SBS's ongoing outreach efforts in observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month, starting with a joint outreach event in commercial corridors serving Corona and Jackson Heights in Queens in partnership with the Queens Chamber. "Mobie" will serve as a mobile base of operations at 37th Avenue and Junction Boulevard in Queens today, September 24, from 1 - 4 p.m., with staff from the local NYC Business Solutions Center providing free onsite consultations to local small business owners.
"Mobie" will be deployed for two more National Hispanic Heritage Month events:
