Construction continues to advance along the State Route (SR) 316 corridor, with steady progress visible at several active work zones throughout Barrow County.
Grading operations remain underway across the project limits as crews shape the roadway and prepare sections for upcoming paving. Significant progress has been made along the new frontage roads near Craft Road and McCarty Road, as well as at Barber Creek Road and Bethlehem Road. Base construction, the critical layer beneath the pavement, has been finished in multiple locations, including portions of the frontage and access roads. Once these sections pass inspection, paving operations can begin, marking an important step toward establishing the final driving surfaces.
Drainage installation is also progressing. Crews have remained active near the new Bethlehem Road roundabout and along SR 316, advancing the systems needed for long-term stormwater management. Box culvert work continues at various locations along SR 316.

Bridge construction remains a focal point. At Bethlehem Road, beams have been set, and crews are now placing the metal decking that will support the future concrete deck. At Barber Creek Road, crews continue their work on the bridge decking and are preparing for the upcoming deck pour and barrier wall installation.
Erosion control and maintenance efforts are ongoing throughout the corridor. Crews continue to monitor and maintain silt fencing, orange barrier fencing, temporary mulch, and construction entrances to protect waterways and maintain safe, clean work zones. Existing traffic control measures remain in place to safeguard both motorists and construction personnel.

Holiday Travel Reminder: Navigate SR 316 Work Zones with Care
|
|
|
As holiday travel picks up across Barrow County, drivers will continue to see construction activity along the SR 316 corridor. Whether traveling to a holiday gathering or running last-minute errands, keeping a few simple safety habits in mind can help everyone move safely through the project area.

Travel Tips for SR 316:
-
Watch for Changing Conditions: Construction zones may change week to week as grading, drainage, and bridge work progresses. Stay alert for updated signage, barrels, or lane shifts.
-
Give Yourself Space: Increased traffic and work zone adjustments can create sudden slowdowns. Maintain extra distance between your vehicle and the one ahead.
-
Slow Down in Work Zones: Even if crews are working behind barriers or off the roadway, slower speeds improve visibility and keep everyone safer.
-
Use Caution at Night: With shorter winter days, much of your travel may occur after sunset. Be mindful of reduced visibility and the presence of construction lighting along the corridor.
