PER-213 WIDE AREA SEARCH

Dates: January 13-15, 2026 Time: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. EST

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is applicable to jurisdictions that would need to conduct wide area searches due to a natural disaster or terrorist incident. Participants will learn practical search methods and skills to perform systematic searches over a large, affected area. The course concludes with a tabletop exercise that requires participants to utilize the previous two days of instruction. The curriculum of this course is based on lessons learned from search operations in support of the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Dolly, Ike and other wide area search incidents.

This course has been developed for local, state and federal responders who may be required to perform search operations. The target audience also includes all emergency responders from municipal and industrial agencies tasked with performing search operations. Course participants include emergency responders from the following four disciplines/services: • Fire Service (FS) • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) • Law Enforcement (LE) • Military (MT)
