Amnesty International Australia extends solidarity with Mechelle Turvey, the Noongar Yamatji community and everyone who loved Cassius Turvey in the wake of two men being found guilty of his murder and one man found guilty of manslaughter.
It is a profound sorrow that so many people across the country have learned of Cassius - his kindness, his humour, his emerging leadership in the community - after his passing. Similarly, we have witnessed extraordinary leadership, generosity and advocacy from Mechelle Turvey in the years since her son's brutal murder. Amnesty International Australia pays tribute to Cassius Turvey's family and community who have fought hard for justice and for an end to racial violence and takes inspiration from their resilience, courage and determination.
Amnesty International Australia commits itself to keep fighting to end racism and racial violence and to protect the human rights of First Nations young people.
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all - and we can only do it with your support.
