Work Readiness Program: ‘Lessons I learned from this experience are invaluable’

Get involved with our Work Readiness Program - wheelchair users will receive support in their employment journey and employers can share their disability inclusion efforts. Our next cohort begins on October 29th.

Many thanks to Kevin Mullin for sharing his experience with the program.

Why did you join the Work Readiness Program?

As a wheelchair user due to an incomplete spinal cord injury, I am actively seeking to advance my career. I believed that participating in the Work Readiness Program would equip me with essential skills that I had not focused on for some time.

What impact did the program have on your employment journey?

Throughout the program, I gained valuable insights each week, including one-on-one interview skills, updating my resume, and enhancing my professional social media presence to align with my career goals. I also learned about the latest technological advancements available for individuals with disabilities.

The program offered valuable insights from industry leaders actively seeking qualified individuals to join their teams. Additionally, I had the opportunity to connect with guest speakers from prominent organizations who shared their perspectives on evolving hiring practices, particularly the increasing reliance on automation and software in identifying suitable candidates.

I believe that the lessons learned from this experience are invaluable as I navigate the next steps in my career.

Why would you recommend that others join the program?

I highly recommend this program to others because it highlights many aspects that we often overlook or take for granted, which are critical to industry leaders. This program serves as a vital resource for anyone looking to enhance their employability and career trajectory. The testimonial is a small token of my gratitude for the hard work and dedication that Lesly and the United Spinal team put into this intricate initiative.
